Zelma Redding Receives Eleanor Lane Award

Wesleyan College's Lane Center has awarded Mrs. Zelma Redding, widow of Otis Redding and President of the Otis Redding Foundation, the Eleanor Lane Award for Service and Leadership. The award is based on women in our community serving in leadership and service roles with outstanding achievement in longevity in service and commitment to making a difference.

Mrs. Katherine Hutto nominated Mrs. Redding, saying,

“Zelma Redding could  allow herself to be known simply as the widow of famed singer, Otis Redding, however she has worked hard for our middle Georgia community and carved her own legacy. Zelma founded the “Big O” (Otis Redding) Foundation [now Otis Redding Foundation] to provide educational awareness programs in the arts and humanities. She is an acclaimed lyricist, best known for writing one of Otis Redding’s most popular songs, “I’ve Got Dreams to Remember.” Zelma continues to work actively and is always looking for out for those who need a “leg up” in our community.”
