NewTown Macon and Otis Redding Foundation Team Up for a Special First Friday Celebrating Otis Redding’s 78th Birthday
Join NewTown Macon, Visit Macon, and the Otis Redding Foundation to celebrate Otis Redding’s 78th birthday this First Friday on September 6. Soul Spots will feature performances from Otis Music Campers Bethany Tapee and Haley Favors (6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Second Street, near Fatty's Pizza) and Otis Music Camp Coaches Vinson Muhammad (performing at ALäZ) and Sa’von King (7 p.m. to 8 p.m. near the fountain at Third and Cherry). Expect some inspired original tunes and some Otis Redding classics to sing along to!
Local restaurants will be serving King Of Soul-inspired fare, featuring Decadent Dessert Bar, The Rookery, Oliver's Corner Bistro, Spud Dogs, Satterfield's, and Ocmulgee Brewpub. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these delicious specials will go to the Otis Redding Foundation’s music and arts education programs.
Specials include:
Decadent Dessert Macon’s “Too Hard To Handle!” a large chocolate brownie with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate and caramel sauce, whipped cream and toffee bits.
The Rookery’s “Big ‘O’ Burger,” served with a fried onion ring, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, BBQ sauce.
Satterfield’s “Try a Little Tenderness Brisket Sandwich”, a chopped brisket beef, sauced and topped with pickles. Available from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Smokehouse (look for the tent on the side of the building).
