Macon's Talking about Roderick Cox at the Macon Symphony Orchestra

Thank you to all the wonderful words we heard about Roderick Cox's guest conducting performance with the Macon Symphony Orchestra! From The Telegraph:

Given his first musical instrument, a French horn, by the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Georgia through a grant from the Otis Redding Foundation, to study at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, Roderick Cox earned his master’s degree in music from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, with a concentration in conducting.

However, the support from the local foundation, named for one of the stars in Macon’s musical firmament, did not stop with the French horn. Cox later studied in Oxford, England, and in the Czech Republic with financial support from the Redding family’s foundation. In turn, Cox has served as a counselor for the Otis Music Camp for three summer sessions in recent years.

From GPB:

Roderick Cox says he is living the dream.

Today the Macon native is the assistant conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra. Ten or so years ago he was a band student stubbornly teaching himself how to play French horn. Cox recently came back home to guest conduct the Macon Symphony Orchestra. While there he took time to talk to music students at his high school alma mater, Central High School, about the rewards of music beyond the pop charts. His message? Classical music should cross lines of race and class. And it pays pretty well, too.
