Karla Redding-Andrews and Camper Jordan Smith Visit The Creek 100.9

On Friday, July 8, Macon’s newest radio station, 100.9 The Creek, came on the air. Founded by local business owners, Brad Evans, Wes Griffith and Rob Evans, The Creek only features music that has its roots in the south. On thecreekfm.com, Griffith said, “Celebrating Macon’s heritage, promoting a sense of pride for community and enhancing its cultural offerings have and continue to be my primary goals as a downtown business owner.” This is a dream that we share at the Otis Redding Foundation.The Creek held a poll on their Facebook page to pick the very first song that would be played on their station. We were proud to hear that Otis Redding’s hit, “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” had the honor of being that first song. Along with that, Brad Evans, co-owner and founder of The Creek invited our very own Karla Redding-Andrews and one of this year’s Otis Music Camp campers, Jordan Smith, to be special guests on their afternoon show. At 3 p.m., The Creek host, Anthony Ennis, interviewed Mrs. Redding-Andrews about the Otis Redding Foundation events and about the Otis Music Camp. He also spoke with Jordan Smith about her first year as a camper, before she performed “Different,” an original song that she wrote during the two weeks of Otis Music Camp.

Every week specialty, shows are hosted by influential Macon locals, some of whom have ties to Otis Redding and the Foundation. Otis Music Camp coach Chelsea Hughes has a weekly slot where she discusses the restaurant industry in downtown Macon. Jessica Walden, niece of Otis Redding’s manager Phil Walden and co-owner of Rock Candy Tours, hosts a show where she tells stories of her southern music heritage.
